A. Elements & Principles of Art & Design
Product: 1 study of the elements & principles of art & design
Description:
- in each square, draw your graphic interpretation for each element (7) & principle of art & design (6)
Elements: line, colour, form, space, shape, texture & value
Principles: pattern/repetition/rhythm, variety, contrast, emphasis, movement, and unity/harmony

Description:

B. Art History Movements Study
Product: 2 Movements = 1 full page for each movement, 2 pages total
Description: Pick and read about an art movement from the resource sites below or pick your own movement. Read and/or watch videos to learn about your selected movement. The MoMA site has a great collection of related artworks for the movements listed on their site. Once you have selected a movement and researched it, select one of the following methods to complete this assignment:
- Create an artwork based on that movement’s style
- Create a copy of an artwork from that movement
- Mix an already made artwork and add your own unique twist using the same style!

C. Local Issues
Product: 2 Issues = 1 full page for each issue, 2 pages total
Description: Using the resource links below, or your own resource for local issues, read a section, article or story and create an artwork inspired from the reading. You can incorporate text into your images, even a printout of the actual article can be glued in or creatively transferred into your sketchbook! You can also choose to watch a video on a local issue and create artwork based on that video/news story. If you select your own source, include a link to where you found it so that I can check it out too!

Description:
- select 2-3 objects and create a still life drawing based on those objects (if you use blind- contour, go in after and add details or colour)
- draw a self-portrait using a mirror, you can make it realistic or use blind-contour drawing (if you use blind- contour, go in after and add details or colour)
B. About You
Product: 1 full page for each composition, 2 pages total
Description:
- create a composition that includes three things that are important to you
- fill entire page
C. Provincial Issues

Topic or Theme:
Which topic or theme are you going to explore? Choose from the following: Identity, Culture, Environment, Society OR pick your own. Why is it important to you? Elements and Principles of Art: Which elements and principles of art are you going to focus on when creating your piece? Minimum requirement of one element and one principle. Medium and Materials: What medium will you be working in? Sculpture, painting, drawing, ceramics, mixed-media, photography etc. What materials will you require? Watercolour paper, pencils, drawing paper, charcoal, pastels, photography supplies, clay etc. Purpose: What are you hoping to learn from your directed study? How will it help you grow as an artist? Final Piece: What will you be making? General description of your final piece including size estimates and quantity if you are making more than one. *You will have 5 classes to complete the directed study, starting on January 7, 2014 *Directed Study final piece due by end of class on January 17, 2014 |
